DEVONtechnologies reseases DEVONthink Pro 1.2 and DEVONagent 2.0.2

August 17, 2006

DEVONtechnologies, LLC releases updates for its document and information manager DEVONthink Professional and for its Internet research agent and alternative Web browser DEVONagent.

DEVONthink Professional 1.2 comes with a number of new features, most prominently the possibility to use bookmarklets. Bookmarklets are JavaScript commands added to the bookmarks of a bookmarklet-enabled Web browser, e.g., Safari or DEVONagent 2.0.2, that perform a function instead of loading a stored Web address. DEVONthink Professional supports two bookmarklets that add a displayed Web page either as link or as Web archive to the currently open database.

The new version also adds support for QuickTime data types added by third-party components and comes with scripts for importing bookmarks as well as for creating “smart groups” that represent a phrase search or all items modified within the last seven days. A new preference option blocks inline advertisements in the built-in Web browser, and the information panel allows modifying the comments field of multiple selected items at once, which is useful, e.g., for using the comments field for tagging.

DEVONagent 2.0.2 passively supports bookmarklets in its bookmarks drawer, e.g., those of DEVONthink Professional 1.2, and features the same inline advertisement filter that is also built-in into DEVONthink Professional. This effectively blocks many inline ads provided by major search engines. In addition, DEVONagent 2.0.2 scans Web pages for linked business cards in the common vCard standard (files with the file name extension “.vcf”). Almost all scanners have been improved, and so have been the language filters, the general advertisement filter, and the AppleScript and Automator support. Optionally, DEVONagent 2.0.2 shows either the pages list or the AI-based digest after a search run is done.

DEVONthink Professional 1.2 and DEVONagent 2.0.2 require Mac OS X 10.3.9 or Mac OS X 10.4 “Tiger”. A fast Internet connection is strongly recommended for DEVONagent. Both applications are immediately available from They must be purchased after the evaluation period of 150 (DEVONthink Professional) or 60 (DEVONagent) hours of non-continuous runtime.
